There's "Alternatives" to Conventional Medicine
When the average person gets really sick, they usually go to a doctor, who will in turn use conventional medical methods for treatment, pain relief and healing. While this is great, you should be aware that there are many popular alternative methods for treatment.
Before we look at alternatives, however, let's briefly look at conventional medicine. A few examples of conventional medicine include prescription drugs, traditional surgery, and scientific testing using modern computers and equipment. Because the vast majority of doctors use and condone conventional methods in their medical practice, it only makes sense that this is the form of treatment they will advise.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when it comes to your health, it's prudent to know all your options, especially if it's serious. Of course, the decision should be confirmed by the patient and physician on an individual basis. However, it is worthwhile to note that sometimes a new treatment is just the trick to getting better. While we won't go into details here, some popular and effective alternative treatments include:
- Massage
- Herbal remedies
- Meditation
- Acupuncture
- Mind-body techniques
- Yoga
- Many more!
Because conventional medicine is the norm in the United States, alternative methods aren't usually considered until conventional treatments have been determined to be ineffective.
Alternative treatments are quite different than conventional methods in that they are designed to focus on the person as a whole, taking into account both body and soul. In addition, alternative methods can be instrumental in dealing with pain, stress, tension, and other ailments that can hinder healing.
Unlike conventional methods, such as surgery, where the "ailment" is dealt with on a physical level -- for alternative treatments to be truly effective -- the patient needs to be mentally and physically focused on making the treatment succeed.
Ideally, a comprehensive approach utilizing both conventional and alternative treatments should be considered. Of course, be sure to consult experienced, reputable and competent health professionals to help you determine which treatments are right for your particular concern.
